Night Life and
Movement
2023 - 2024
Large selection of works completed during my 3rd year at Glasgow School of Art focusing on movement, playing with texture and the application of paint. Most of these paintings are finger paintings, the earlier works in acrylic on paper and later works oil on canvas.
selection of works focus on using colour and the application of paint to represent at first movement and then developing into the nightlife and the clubbing scene, showcasing
bright colours and thick textured pieces.
While experimenting with different expressionist approaches to painting I was drawn to a rather messy method of painting, using mainly my hands to create a push and pull effect in the paintings. This method of painting allows complete control of where on the canvas paint ends up and the thickness of the layers of paint applied. I enjoyed the freedom of finger paintings, the some what unpredictable
movement of hands creating unintended yet beautiful marks. I used fluorescent and
extremely bright mixes of colours to fully incorporate the very heavily influence that club lightings have had on this series of works, using bright colours to swirl and blend together as if a crowd of dancers enjoying a night out.
